Abstract

This paper quantifies the translation styles of Bai Xianyong’s Crystal Boys and Howard Goldblatt’s English translation of Crystal Boys with the help of AntConc software, and embeds a data privacy protection mechanism. The study analyzes the differences in style between the two texts at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, and finds that the choice of high-frequency words, lexical diversity and collocation are different in terms of lexis; there are variations in the average sentence length, sentence type and proportion of complex sentences in terms of syntax; and there are differences in the means of articulation and the treatment of thematic coherence in terms of discourse. Exploring the causes, it can be seen that cultural differences, personal factors of translators and the needs of target readers jointly affect the translation style. In terms of data privacy protection, a whole-process protection mechanism covering data collection, pre-processing, analysis and storage and transmission is constructed. This study enriches the theory of quantitative research on translation style and provides practical references for translators, but there are shortcomings such as the limitation of text scope. In the future, we can expand the research text, synthesize more analysis methods, and explore translation style and data privacy protection in depth.
